Product Overview
54672522 is the intake air filter element for Ingersoll Rand NG R-Series (Next Generation R-Series) 30–37 kW screw air compressors.
It sits inside the external air cleaner assembly, upstream of the airend intake. As the compressor draws in ambient air, dust, grit and fibers are captured by the media before they reach the airend. The condition of this element directly affects how long the downstream oil separator, oil filter and lubricant will last.
One part number covers four models on the same platform: R30I, R30N, R37I and R37N. Both 30 kW and 37 kW, and both fixed-speed (N) and variable-speed (I) configurations, share the same element. No need to distinguish by power or speed control when ordering.

Flow and Restriction
| Parameter | Value / Notes |
|---|---|
| Rated Air Flow | Matched to NG R-Series 30–37 kW platform output; one element per compressor |
| Face Velocity | Approx. 0.036 m/s |
| Initial Pressure Drop | With a new element installed, intake vacuum should stabilize below 0.05 bar (5 kPa) |
| Operating Differential | From new-element restriction to clogging alarm setpoint |
| Alarm / Final Restriction | Per compressor intake vacuum gauge and controller alarm |
| Restriction vs. Energy | Each 1 kPa rise in intake restriction increases compressor energy consumption by approx. 1% |
Pressure Drop and Energy Consumption
Rising intake restriction lowers intake pressure and density. To maintain set discharge pressure and flow, the compressor must do more work and specific power rises. Based on 0.7 MPa discharge pressure and 101.3 kPa atmospheric pressure, theoretical compression ratio calculation:
| Intake Restriction | Compression Ratio | Relative Energy Increase |
|---|---|---|
| 0 kPa (new element) | 7.91 | Baseline |
| 2 kPa | 8.07 | +2.0% |
| 4 kPa | 8.24 | +4.1% |
| 6 kPa | 8.41 | +6.3% |
From new to heavily clogged (0 → 6 kPa), compressor energy consumption rises by about 6%. R-Series units often run more than 6000 hours per year; the extra electricity cost far exceeds the price of an element. This is the engineering basis for the factory differential-pressure alarm.

Standard Maintenance and Installation
One person, approx. 20 minutes.
Shut down, depressurize, lock out/tag out. Disconnect and lock out the main power. Wait until the controller shows system pressure at 0 bar. Criterion: gauge at zero, no residual air flow noise.
Open the air cleaner housing. The air cleaner is external, mounted on the R-Series enclosure. Release the end cover latches or bolts. Criterion: latches not seized, cover not deformed.
Remove the old element and inspect. Lift out the old element vertically and observe dust distribution and surface condition. Criterion: uniform gray-brown dust is normal; oily residue indicates oil carryover upstream and requires investigation.
Clean the housing interior. Wipe the inner walls and bottom with a dry, lint-free cloth. Do not blow compressed air into the housing (it will drive dust into the intake). Criterion: no loose dust on inner walls; in humid areas also check for condensation at the housing bottom.
Check the breather filter. Breather filter (part number 39123111) shares the 2000-hour interval with the air filter. Check now: if clogged or heavily loaded, replace at the same time. Criterion: media intact, no severe dust loading.
Install the new element and confirm seal. Align 54672522 with the housing outlet and push in fully. Confirm the radial seal ring is evenly compressed around the circumference, with no pinching or skewing. Criterion: element face flush with housing, uniform seal ring impression.
Reassemble, reset timer and verify. Refit the cover and tighten latches. Reset the air filter service timer on the controller. Start the compressor and run at idle for 5 minutes. Criterion: intake vacuum stabilizes below 0.05 bar (5 kPa), indicating a good seal; if vacuum is high, check seal ring seating.
Installation rule: Do not start the compressor until the element is fully seated and the seal ring is compressed. With a radial seal, if not pushed fully home, air bypasses directly through the gap between seal ring and housing — equivalent to running without a filter.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which models use 54672522?
All four models on the NG R-Series 30–37 kW platform: R30I, R30N, R37I, R37N. Fixed-speed (N) and variable-speed (I) configurations share the same air filter. R30, R37, R30IE and R37IE also use this part number.
Is the air filter the same for R30 and R37?
Yes. 54672522 fits both R30 (30 kW) and R37 (37 kW). The difference between the two is motor power and displacement; the 30–37 kW platform uses identical filter housing and element.
Can it be used on R45 or R55?
No. R45–R75 uses 54672530; R90–R110 uses 23429822. Filter housing dimensions differ across power platforms, so cross-platform installation is not possible and will not seal.
How often should it be replaced?
Standard conditions: 2000 hours or 3 months, whichever comes first. In high-dust environments such as cement, quarrying or mining, shorten to approx. 1500 hours. If site dust is persistently high, add the high-dust pre-filter kit (24737298 / 24737306); when the pre-filter layer fails, replace only the pre-filter and extend main element life.
What else should be replaced with the air filter?
Parts on the same 2000-hour service interval: oil filter 54672654, oil separator 54749247, breather filter 39123111. These share the same interval as the air filter; replace together to avoid staggered maintenance and repeated downtime.
Is there a service kit containing these parts?
Yes. 2000-hour kit 24730897 (for fixed and variable speed), 4000-hour fixed-speed kit 24730939, 4000-hour variable-speed kit 24766123.
What lubricant should be used?
Ingersoll Rand Ultra Coolant, part number 38459582, for all R-Series screw compressors. Available in 5 L, 20 L and 55-gallon sizes.
Can a dirty element be blown clean and reused?
Not recommended. This is a radial-seal pleated paper element designed for single use. Back-blowing with compressed air only removes surface dust; deep fine particles cannot be removed, and air pressure can break media fibers or deform pleat spacing, creating invisible channels. Reusing a cleaned element is a "looks clean, actually failed" condition — risk outweighs benefit.
How do I know it needs replacing?
Four signals: ① intake vacuum gauge reading rises; ② controller shows service due; ③ after removal, media surface is completely covered with dust and original pleats are not visible; ④ discharge flow drops while energy consumption rises. Any one signal means replace.
Is it a genuine part? How to verify?
The 54672522 described here is an Ingersoll Rand OEM part number. Genuine parts carry Ingersoll Rand anti-counterfeit identification and warranty. When ordering, rely on the part number itself — it is the only unambiguous identifier. Do not order based solely on "fits R30/R37" or visual similarity.
